Sun
City Fire Department
Department of Public Education and Safety
RELEASE
DATE: February 23, 2006
The Sun City Fire Department is committed
to providing the utmost level of emergency services offered to the Sun City
community. As part of our commitment, we would like to share information, which
could be useful in case of emergency situations.
A campaign encouraging people to enter an
emergency contact number in their cell phone's memory under the heading
"ICE" (i.e., In Case of Emergency) has rapidly spread throughout the
world as a particular consequence of the recent terrorist attacks in London.
Originally established as a nationwide campaign in the United Kingdom, ICE
allows paramedics or police to contact a designated relative or next-of-kin in
an emergency situation.
By adopting the ICE advice, an individual's cell
phone will help emergency personnel quickly contact a friend or relative--which
could be vital in a life-or-death situation. It only takes a few seconds to do,
and it could easily help save a life. Why not put ICE in your cell phone now?
In your phone book or contacts list, type the acronym “ICE” and the telephone
number of the person you wish to be contacted.

In every
emergency, every second counts, remember to dial 911 first!
As a secondary, your ICE telephone numbers could be of great
importance. The Sun City Fire Department offers a number of community education
programs including a specialized home safety survey service. This service is
offered to residents of Sun City, Youngtown and Citrus Point free of charge.
Each survey includes smoke alarm checks, a customized exit drill plan and
fire/fall prevention recommendations. Please contact us at 623-974-2321 to make
an appointment.
