This summer, it is crucial that our community is aware that seniors are very susceptible to heat related illnesses. When combining medication usage along with outdoor activity, it is important that you are aware of simple preventative measures you can take to stay safe and healthy this summer.

Hydration is Key!

Drink plenty of water! At least 6-8 glasses of water a day!

Avoid excessive alcoholic beverages. They may satisfy thirst, however can cause the body to become dehydrated.  WATER IS #1!

Dress for the occasion!

Wear lightweight loose fitting clothes that reflect the sunlight and maintain the body temperature.

If wearing a swimsuit- remember to use a cover up to protect your skin when not in the pool!

Protect face and head by wearing sun visors, wide brimmed hats, or some type of hat that offers shade

Protect your eyes by wearing good sunglasses with UV Protection!

         REMEMBER YOUR SUNSCREEN!

Acclimate your body to the heat before planning activities.

Plan activities during cooler periods of the day/evenings to avoid illness!
