Key Boxes

506.1 The Fire Chief is authorized to require a key box installed in an approved location.

 

506.1.2 Key Boxes. The lock box (Supra Lock Box), must be an approved model utilized by the Fire Department and shall be installed 60” above finish grade. Authorized Supra lock box order forms are available at the Sun City Fire District Administrative Office, Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Lock box forms can be transmitted by e-mail or facsimile.

 

Horn & Strobe

901.4.3.1 Horn & Strobes.  Additional Horn & Strobe (weather proof) shall be installed in an approved location on the exterior of the building in addition to a water gong or electric bell. Horn/Strobe shall be installed on the front, or address side of the building as approved by the Fire Chief.

 

Fire Sprinkler Systems

903.1.1 Commercial development. All new commercial occupancies for which a building or construction permit is obtained shall be protected by a fully automatic Sprinkler System. Installation of the sprinkler system shall be in accordance with the requirements of NFPA 13, unless otherwise approved by the Fire Chief.  Existing buildings, structures and occupancies will not require retrofitting with fire sprinkler systems to meet current code standards unless:

 

þ      Building fire resistance has decreased; or

þ      Building area has increased to more than 2,500 Sq/feet; or

þ      Building occupant load has increased; or

þ      Building occupancy classification has changed; or

þ      Fire or other structural damage in buildings exceeding 50% of the Sq/footage; or       

þ      As determined by the Fire Chief. 

 

Standpipes

905.3.1 Building height. Class I standpipe systems shall be installed throughout buildings where the floor level of the highest story is one floor above the lowest level of the fire department vehicle access, or where the floor level of the lowest   story is one floor below the highest level of fire department vehicle access.

 

Fire Alarm Systems

907.2 Where required - New building and structures. All new commercial occupancies for which a building or construction permit is obtained where the occupancy load exceeds 50 or more shall be protected by a fully automatic fire alarm system. Installation of the fire alarm system shall be accordance with the requirements of NFPA 72, unless otherwise approved by the Fire Chief. All fire alarms systems shall be addressable systems with Class-A wiring. An approved fully automatic fire detection system shall be installed in accordance with the provisions of this code and NFPA 72. Monitoring shall be by a central station as defined by NFPA 72 section 3.3.193.1. Devices, combinations of devices, appliances and equipment shall comply with Section 907.1.2. The automatic fire detectors shall be smoke detectors, except that an approved alternative type of detector shall be installed in spaces such as boiler rooms, utilities rooms, and janitor’s closet with water heater and sink, where, during normal operation, products of combustion are present in sufficient quantity to actuate a smoke detector.                 

                              

Fire Department Connections

912.2 Location. With respect to hydrants, driveways, buildings and landscaping, fire department connections shall be so located that fire apparatus and hose connected to supply the system will not obstruct access to the buildings for other   fire apparatus. The location of the fire department connections shall be remote from the building. Additionally, the fire department connection shall be located no closer than 30 feet or not further that 70 feet from a fire hydrant.                    

 

Fire Lanes

D103.6.1.1 Fire lane. In addition to section D 103.6 Signs, Fire Lane curbs shall be painted red in color on the top and outward face of the curb and shall be marked with NO PARKING- FIRE LANE in 4 inches white block letters on the top and vertical face of the curb spaced every 30 feet on center, when approved by the Fire Chief.

 

Commercial Building Identification

D103.6.1.2 Commercial addressing. Commercial address numbers shall be Black in color, tenant space numbers or letters shall be in contrasting color, 4 inches in height, 1 inch in width, and shall be displayed on or above front and rear access doors so that the number is plainly legible and visible from the street or road fronting the property. See Table 1 for commercial applications.

0 to 50 feet, numbers shall be 9 inches in height, 2 ½ inches in width.

51 to 100 feet, numbers shall be 12 inches in height, 3 ½ inches in width.

101 feet or more, numbers shall be 15 inches in height, 5 inches in width.
