Department Training

The key to successful outcome on the scene of an emergency operation is through a comprehensive training program. The Sun City Fire Department has made training in fire and medical procedures one of its highest priorities. The personnel of the Sun City Fire Department recorded over 3,785 hours in 2001 in the pursuit of excellence in the field.

Daily training schedules are sent to company officers to ensure that classroom and practical "hands on" training are received in each station. This program is coordinated to include all areas of training, adhering to National Fire Protection Association, International Fire Service Training Association, and Insurance Services Office standards.

To further enhance our training program the department participates in the Phoenix Regional Training Academy on a quarterly basis. Additional medical training and education are received and administered through the Boswell Hospital emergency department and other valley hospitals.

All firefighting personnel employed by the Sun City Fire Department are Firefighter I and II certified with the State of Arizona Fire Marshal's Office. All new employees attend a required 16 week, 640 hour training academy located at the Regional Phoenix Training Center.
